On July 19, 2023, Respbooks.com released a responsive web design version of Paul von Hindenburg's 1919 autobiography, which he titled Out of My Life.
The English translation by Frederic Appleby Holt (F.A. Holt) was published the following year and is now in public domain. Yomigaeru Kingdom, LLC however specializes in revitalizing such worthy books from the past and then providing them online for free. In this case, YomiKing converted the text from British to Universal English, designed a new cover, added illustrations, and then republished the work a hundred years later to its associated Respbooks web site.
Paul von Hindenburg's autobiography begins with priceless insight into his noble upbringing under God and the Prussian Royal house. He then recounts his rise through their legendary military, with the start of his adult career coinciding with the Austro-Prussia War of 1866, and gaining momentum in the epic Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71.
Most of the book of course is devoted the duty that he performed in the Great War, now termed World War I, which ended the year before the book was written. He gives insight into the early triumph and eventual tragedy, all of which helps fill out his character and of is invaluable historically.
The book's anecdotes of other great figures such as Helmuth von Moltke the Elder are especially interesting. He also sheds some light on Enver Pasha of Turkey. Hindenburg speaks of inimical nations with a gentleman's moderation but at times is more blunt, as he examines events and causes leading up to the disaster of November 1918.
